Year 6 - SATs Week Please note that during SATs week (11th - 15th May 2009) no absences (with the exception of hospital stays) will be authorised during this week. All holidays for this year group must be taken after their SATs week. If your child has access to the internet they may benefit from using this website: www.bbc.co.uk/revisewise This site will help them revise for the English, Maths and Science tests. It has the advantage that we use this in school therefore the children are familiar with it.
15th May 2009 Well done to Year 6, who have 'survived' SATs week. Thank you for all the support and encouragement you gave to your child during this time.
Article by Rhiannon age 10 & Alice age 11 ‘Driving Beats’, a music band, came to our school on 5th May. They first performed to the whole school. It was extremely loud! They played a range of music from the 50’s to the present day! There was a huge buzz in the school hall as they played rock! They were fantastic! Later on they had a special session with Year 6, where they recorded a CD, putting more layers on with a special piece of equipment. The Year 6 pupils had to sing high notes which were absolutely terrible, but everyone had fun and enjoyed themselves.
Wednesday 20th May - Architectural Workshop Year 5 & 6 children are having an ‘Architectural Workshop’ where they will learn problem solving, story telling, group work and maths as part of this hands-on experience relating to the National Curriculum requirements. These ‘workshops’ have proved to be successful in the past, and the children usually have an enjoyable day. |
February 2009 Our slideshow shows Training with the Royal Shakespeare Company and Africa Day
<!--[endif]-->
Africa Day The pictures in the slideshow above were taken on Africa Day (9th February), which we had arranged to coincide with Mrs Peet's trip to Iganga.
Children wore Mufti and came for breakfast too - funds raised went towards our link school, Kigulu School.
Staff organised activities with an African theme and children from different classes worked together in groups (as opposed to working in their usual year groups) on two of these.
Jack & Sacha Woods' dad used to live in Africa so he brought in some of the things he'd collected on his travels. Jack had prepared a short presentation, using the photographs his dad had taken. They delivered this presentation to every group in the school.
Royal Shakespeare Company We are delighted to be one of the schools currently working in partnership with the Education Department of the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) as part of their Performance and Learning Network project. Daventry William Parker School is one of their Project schools and, together with Abbey Junior, Ashby Fields Primary and Braunston Primary, we will be joining DWPS students in putting on a very special performance of William Shakespeare's 'Hamlet' in the Regional Shakespeare Festival.
The performances will take place in the main hall at Daventry William Parker School on the evenings of Thursday 26th March and Friday 27th March 2009. On one of these evenings there will be visitors from the Royal Shakespeare Theatre to help celebrate the work of the children.
